Sensational! Villa Park rocked Windy City's last 9 wickets for 23 runs to announce their arrival in grand finale; Zeyad Imtiaz (28 runs & 2 wkts) named MOM |
By Haris Imtiaz
Villa Park faced dangerous Windy City second time in the tournament, this time on a big stage of semi final. Villa Park once again won the toss and elected to bat first against formidable Windy City bowling. Regular openers Zeyad Imtiaz (28) and Mujtaba Baqir (14) once again provided a stable and fiery opening stand. But as always, Windy City hit VPCC hard in the middle overs to capture 6 VPCC wickets under 100 runs, including a prize wicket of Fawad Agha (20), who stabilized the innings but failed to accelerate the run rate. As VPCC was looking down to a collapse, Hassan Bakhshi (26) played another gem of a innings in the lower order along with captain Uzair Ali (14) to provide a reasonable 131 run target for mighty Windy City. Affan Kareemullah (3) once again was a chief wrecker with a very miser economy rate. Windy City opened the innings with “The Wall” Taha Baggia (39) and Ali Agha (5). Both started the innings sensible by taking quick singles and twos. Ali Agha was dismissed early in the innings off the bowling of ever improving Muhammed Ahmed (1). Hashim Raza (22) joined Taha and this experience pair started toying with VPCC bowling and fielding. They both took the score to comfortable 75 run for the loss of 1 wicket. But then Uzair Ali handed the ball to his most reliable weapon Haris Imtiaz (2), who removed Taha with slower delivery; very well supported by brilliant catch from Zeyad Imtiaz. Then two balls later Muhammed Ahmed’s excellent effort resulted in a big wicket of Qasim Khan (0) courtesy of a direct hit from 3rd man. And very next ball Haris bowled the ball of the tournament to get rid of Mir Ali (0); 3 wickets in an over turned the tide for Villa Park. This enthusiasm resulted in another run out of Arif Malick for another zero for Windy City. Vishan Subasinghe (5) joined Hashim Raza but VPCC main depth bowling machine Fawad (3) was at his best and really hard to cope with. Fawad destroyed the tail with his thunderbolts and Zeyad (2) supporting him well taking critical wickets of Hashim and Danish (0). Windy city dusted off for mere 98 runs to give VPCC pass to the grand finale against another powerhouse Cougars. Zeyad Imtiaz (28 runs & 2 wkts) named player of the semi final. |
